Vinyl turntables

In: Sewing

Tawny of QuietDoing makes these terrific vinyl recreations of records and turntables. This dual turntable wallet is what first caught my eye, but she also makes cute little ipod nano cases, and little turntable pins. They are pain-stakenly hand cut, hand sewn, and as she points out - vegan friendly. You can find these, and many more, available in her etsy […]

Veggie market tote

In: Sewing

I know, I know. I posted a ton of bags last week, but I cannot get enough of this fantastic tote bag from those geniuses over at design*sponge. It pushes all my buttons in the best possible way.

They posted a great tutorial on how to make your own, following their simple pattern. I am utterly in […]

Round up of reusable grocery bags

In: Sewing

To finish out this week’s reusable bag posts, I wanted to post a round up of some of my favorites that didn’t necessarily fit into one of my previous posts. If you’ve got a great one I’ve missed drop me a comment.

One of the most exciting and unique was this tutorial for reusable produce bags by Wendy […]

Fused plastic messenger bag

In: Sewing

Well, I didn’t get enough of these recycled bags the first time around so I decided it was worthy of another post. After another google flurry I came across this incredible how to video from Make:

Bre Pettis of Weekend Projects teamed up with Anda of Etsy to not only explain how to fuse old discarded […]

Fused plastic bags

In: Sewing

Fused plastic bags made a huge splash last summer on a number of blogs. Their popularity is kind of a no brainer. They are a great way to reuse all the plastic bags everyone seems to collect far too many of, and they are pretty simple to make. I’ve seem some great tutorials for these on esty […]

Compact fabric totes

In: Sewing

One of my favorite shopping bags, is the fold up one that I got last summer at Target. I have a few of them actually. They are designed to fold up into this little zippered pouch that is about the same dimensions as a check book. When the bag is open that pouch turns into a little […]

Project: Cooking Mama Apron

In: Felt, Info, Project, Sewing

I’ve been on a bit of an appliqué kick, with this first string of posts. I think it has a lot to do with my latest project.

It’s a Cooking Mama Apron! Or rather an apron, adorned with a hand cut felt appliqué of none other than Cooking Mama of Nintendo fame. It’s a little bit of […]

Spring Scarf

In: Sewing

This rad scraf is by Kajsa of syko, a remarkable designer from Finland. I love the combination colors and patterns she chose for the bird appliqués, and how they contrast with the grey jersey material she used for the scarf. Plus this is exactly the kind of scarf that I can totally still pull off in San Diego, […]

How to: Appliqué Pillows

In: Sewing

A while back I stumbled across a tutorial for these simple monogrammed pillows on design*sponge.

I love the simplicity of the single letter and the strong typefaces they used. If you’re looking to get started with an easy applique project, look no further.

Squid tie

In: Sewing

I guy I used to work with, Chris, and I used to talk about squids all the time. He was obsessed. One day he sent me a link to this crocheted squid and it started  a flurry of IM’d links to squid and squid related crafts. We must have found dozens but out of all of […]

About Crafterbation

I started this blog after I realized that I spend way more time looking at crafty things than making crafty things, a practice I’ve dubbed crafterbation. I wanted create an outlet to share all the great crafty things I find that I would love to make, if only I had the time and the motivation to actually complete them. When the mood strikes and I do actually make something, you can read about that here as well.
