I like to think of myself as somewhat of a prolific crafter, but in reality I am not. Where as I can spend hours pouring over craft books and magazines, or drooling over a limitless number of blogs, I lack the same enthusiasm when it comes to actually sitting myself down and making something. The truth is, I spend an incredibly disproportionate amount of time thinking about making things in relation to the time I spend actually making things.

It’s all started to come into focus for me on a recent trip to LA when I sought out a Japanese books store, with the express purpose of buying a genuine amigurumi pattern book. After a successful score, I was flipping through the book and showing different patterns to my friend. While I was busy “fantasizing,” if you will, about all the possibilities, he just seemed confused. He asked how would I be able to make any of the patterns since they were all in Japanese? I explained that there are charts in the book and tutorials on translating online, but then I also admitted that I might not ever go to that trouble and this would be just another addition to my “craft porn” collection. We joked back and forth and he asked me if I “crafterbated” and there it was, “crafterbation” was born.

So I decided to turn that idea into a blog, my goal being to post about all the great crafty things I find all over the web and elsewhere. Things that I would love to make, if only I had the time and the motivation to actually complete them. I have had a few blogs over the years but they all ended up falling by the wayside, because I would fall behind on projects and have nothing to post. However, I never stopped looking for the next project to start…

So I hope this site will serve as a sort of craft dream journal for me, and maybe a resource of crafty finds for all of you. I plan to cover a broad range of crafts like sewing, knitting, embroidery and the like, but also branch out a bit from time to time into food, gardening and design. Basically whatever I find interesting and wish that I could make, will be my guiding principles of sorts. Also from time to time I do actually make something, and I’ll post about that here too. I welcome submissions the links so feel free shoot me an email (you can find it under the contact section) or leave me a comment. Thanks for checking out my site!
